A Little History...

J. H. Buhrmaster started his company as a small coal business - with an office, a coal shed and a horse-drawn wagon as his only assets! He hired his sister, Elizabeth, to run the office and a yard hand to get the business up and running. By the 1920s his company was prospering. It was incorporated as J.H. Buhrmaster Co., Inc. in 1927.

In 1937, Kenneth E. Buhrmaster joined his father in the business. Today, Buhrmaster Energy Group remains an independent, locally owned company, with the fourth generation of Buhrmasters at the helm.

From Past to Present

From those early humble beginnings, J.H. Buhrmaster Co., Inc. has grown into a large wholesale/retail petroleum distributor, delivering heating oil, propane and other motor fuels to homes, farms, businesses and job sites throughout New York’s Greater Capital Region. In 2013, Buhrmaster acquired Shaw Propane in Fort Edward, expanding our service area north to Hamilton and Essex counties. While we operate a fleet of modern, radio dispatched delivery vehicles and offer a range of integrated online services, we haven’t forgotten where we started: . Our horse-drawn wagon is still around – but only on display in our Scotia headquarters showroom!
